I added this rice, along with blended salsa and cumin to my rice cooker to make a Spanish style rice. The rice came out beautifully, the grains were firmed, but tender, and had an amazing aroma.

The Parliament Gold Jumbo Extra Long Basmati Rice is a decent choice for meals that feature rice mixed in with (or put underneath) other ingredients. It's not your regular white or unbleached rice - you'll have to prep it before cooking. You can prep it by rinsing the rice in tap water until the water comes out clear, and then soaking it in the pot (or rice cooker) you'll be using for a good 10-15 minutes before cooking.

It does have a different smell and slightly different taste than the rice most Americans are used to - and that's fine! Tastes great with Indian dishes, mixed in to Mexican food, etc.

The directions are pretty hard to read for my 50+ year old eyes, so be warned. I knew how to prep Basmati rice ahead of time but you may want to simply google the prep.

I make taco rice with this, so I added liquid into the rest of the ingredients and cooked it until the rice was done.

The directions are SO SMALL.

Also, even after rinsing this, it smelled kind of like corn? Not sure if that's normal. But the rice dish comes out well when I make it.

I am mostly accustomed to jasmine rice ... but this Golden basmati takes everything to another level ... just the aroma and fragrance ..the tell that the rice has been cooked ...sets the stage for what's to come ... delicious and flavorful and nutty ... just what you'd want in a quality basmati .. each time I've had basmati in traditional Indian or Middle Eastern restaurants I pledge to make it at home ... but it's kind of intimidating to compare the home cook to the professional ... at least I know with this Parliament rice I'm making the right choice ... yes ... extra long ... extra good ... and the two pound package is just right to have on hand ...not too little or too much ... as other's have mentioned it's near impossible to read what's written on the packaging ... but I'm confident and experienced enough to disregard that and just enjoy ... price point is good ..I'd certainly recommend and already put in my cart for a next reorder ...

I used to buy huge bags of basmati at the international markets, but now that we are a smaller household, I had switched to smaller bags of regular rice and didn't realize how much I missed good Basmati until cooking up this Parliament Gold Jumbo Basmati. They aren't kidding that the grains are extra long and they were nicely intact when I opened the package. The back of the package has A LOT of VERY SMALL writing, so I was thankful that I knew how to cook rice already since there was no way my old eyes were reading anything on the package. I measured out 2/3 cup of rice and added about 1.5 cups of water, brought to a boil, then turned down to simmer, covered, for 20 minutes. I then let the rice rest for 20 minutes while I made a stir-fry. The rice came out nice and fluffy and was perfect with my chicken stir-fry. The current price is $6 for 2 pounds which I find to be reasonable for this quality of rice. I don't put many items on my reorder list, but I think this rice is something I would repurchase.

On the plus side, it cooks up into beautifully long and fluffy grains, perfect for a variety of dishes. However, the 2lbs size may not be sufficient for larger families or frequent rice eaters, which can be a bit of a disappointment. If you're cooking for a small group or trying it for the first time, it's worth a shot, but keep in mind that you might run out quickly if you use rice regularly.

The gold jumbo extra-long basmati rice has a mild pleasant aroma and flavor cooked inside my clay pot. Some grains of the rice stretch out to about .75 inches in length after cooked. The texture comes out non-sticky light and fluffy which makes it easier for me to digest compared to sticky rice. It's been working out well with my salmon pineapple teriyaki and curry dinner recipes. Overall, I find the basmati rice delicious plain and tasty blended with various dinner sauces.
